NewWrite

Customize Your Default Document

You can adjust the appearance of NewWrite’s default document in several ways. Here are some step by step suggestions.

Customize the Text Flow Region

Change the way the text flow region (the dotted line around the box in which the text appears when you’re typing) looks.

  1. Start NewWrite and choose New from the New/Open dialog box.
  2. With the pointer tool, select the Text flow region by clicking its border.
  3. Choose Graphics, Line attributes, and you can easily give the line a color, change the thickness, make a straight line instead of a dotted one or give the line Arrowheads.
  4. Make sure the line is still Selected, and choose Graphics, Attributes, Graphic style Sheets, Redefine Style.
  5. After redefining the style click File, Other, Empty document. A small drop down menu will appear
  6. Choose Set Empty Document. A dialog box shows up.
  7. Choose Set Empty Document again.
  8. Exit NewWrite.

Next time you start NewWrite, you’ll notice the changes have been saved.

Customize Your Default Page Font

NewWrite’s default font is URW Roman. Some people prefer URW Sans or another font. You can use your favorite font in any point size as the default by following these easy steps.

  1. Start NewWrite and choose New from the New/Open Dialog Box.
  2. Choose the font and font size you want. (In fact, you can make all any changes from the Paragraph and Character menus that you want as the defaults in all your future new documents.)
  3. Click File, Other, Empty document. A small drop down menu will appear.
  4. Choose Set Empty Document. A dialog box will appear.
  5. Choose Set Empty Document again.
  6. Exit NewWrite.

Next time you start NewWrite, the changes you made will already be set.

Customize Your Default Rules

You can set way the rules in the Page Setup dialog box appear. Here is how.

  1. Start NewWrite and choose New from the New/Open Dialog Box.
  2. Draw a vertical line with the Line tool.
  3. Choose Graphics, Attributes, Graphic style Sheets, Apply Style.
  4. From the Apply Style list, choose Rule Lines.
  5. Now choose Graphics, line Attributes. The line Attributes dialog box will appear.
  6. Make all the alterations you want for your standard rule lines. You can give the line a color, change the thickness, make a solid line instead of a dotted one, or even give the rule line arrowheads.
  7. While the line is still selected, click Graphics, Attributes, Graphic style Sheets, Redefine Style.
  8. Delete the line you created.
  9. Choose File, Other, Empty document. A small drop down menu will appear.
  10. Choose Set Empty Document. A Dialog Box will appear.
  11. Choose Set Empty Document again.
  12. Exit NewWrite.

Iconbild

Next time you start NewWrite and configure the document to have multiple columns (in the Page Setup dialog box), you’ll see they have your own special look.

Zoom In or Out By Default

You want your NewWrite document always show up zoomed in or zoomed out or full page? Here is how.

  1. Click View, View at %.
  2. Choose the percentage view you want, or use the Custom % dialog box to set the view.
  3. Now click Options, Save Configuration.
  4. Close NewWrite.
  5. Take it a step further by setting your default document to zoom to a specific view by choosing Set Empty Document as in the above examples.

The next time you start NewWrite, the document shows up zoomed the way you applied. Note: Many of the above procedures can be used in other applications like NewDraw, NewCalc, and NewFile.
