NewWrite Booklets

When creating an 8.5″ x 5″ booklet (standard landscaped orientation), you can use NewWrite to print out booklets with pages in the proper order.

Here’s how:

1. In NewWrite, set up Page Size as landscape, and in Page Setup choose two columns. Adjust the margins and the gutter (column spacing) to your taste. It won’t accept more than a one inch gutter, but you can change that manually later, if you want more room for stapling.

2. Using Page Layout, append the appropriate number of pages. For example, append three pages (for a total of four) for an eight page booklet.

3. Using the Text Tool Iconbild, enter a 1, then CTRL+ENTER, then enter a 2, then CTRL+ENTER, and so on, until you have the numbers 1 through 8, one in each frame. This will help you keep track of text flow. CTRL+ENTER is a forced page break, which will keep each number in its own page.

4. Using the arrow tool Iconbild, drag the text frames to the appropriate locations as shown here.

_______
| 2| 7|
| | |
_______
| 6| 3|

5. It helps if you set up vertical and horizontal guides for each page, this will help you snap the text frames into place quite easily. You can still use headers and footers. Keep in mind that automatic page numbering won’t work. You will have to insert page numbers manually on each page.

6. Now replace the numbers with the text that’s appropriate for each page. In most cases, you can Select All to choose all the numbers, then just Paste in your text.

If you plan on doing this kind of thing a lot, you may wish to keep a copy of this layout as a template.
