Nokia 9000i Communicator
Accessories Guide

The Nokia 9000i Communicator accessories have been designed for different users and communication needs. For availability, check with your local dealer.

Use only accessories approved by the Communicator manufacturer. The use of any other types will invalidate any approval or warranty to the apparatus, and may be dangerous.

When you disconnect the power cord of any accessory, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord.

High Power Battery
Iconbild The High Power 900 mAh Li-Ion Battery BLK-4S is a powerful and durable Lithium-Ion battery. The battery provides up to two hours of talk/fax/terminal time or up to 30 hours of standby time. To charge the battery while it is connected to the Communicator, use the Adapter and the Rapid Travel Charger (ACH-4UC) or other approved Nokia chargers. To charge the battery while it is removed from the Communicator, use the Battery Charging Stand (DCH-4) and the Rapid Travel Charger (ACH-4UC).

Rapid Travel Charger
Iconbild The Communicator can be operated normally during charging. Charging time is about 2.5 hours, depending on how drained the battery is. To use the Rapid Trans Charger, plug it into the mains and connect the lead from the charger to the adapter. Connect the plug in the Adapter as shown in the picture. See also the Adapter section in this guide.

Adapter
Iconbild The Adapter PAR-1 is an integrated power supply and communications adapter. The Rapid Travel Charger Plug is inserted in the power jack on the right side of the Adapter (see picture), and the serial cable jack is inserted in the serial jack on the left side of the Adapter (on the same side as the adapter release button).

Battery Charging Stand
Iconbild The Battery Charging Stand (DCH-4) allows you to charge batteries separately. This is especially convenient for charging spare batteries. The Stand´s compact design makes it easy to take it with you. To charge a battery with the charger unit:

  1. Insert a battery in the charger unit so that the four golden contacts at the side of the battery connect with the corresponding contacts in the charger unit.
  2. Plug the Rapid Travel Charger to the charger unit.
  3. Plug the charger to a wall outlet. The red light in front of the charger unit indicates recharging. The light changes to steady green when the battery is fully charged.

RS-232 Adapter Cable
You can connect the Communicator to a PC either through the infrared link or the RS-232 adapter cable DLR-1.

Iconbild To connect to a PC using the adapter cable:

  • Connect the Adapter (PAR-1) to the Communicator
  • Connect one end of the adapter cable to the adapter PAR-1.
  • Attach the other end of the adapter cable to the PC’s RS-232 (serial) port

NOTE: When the Communicator is used as a fax-modem, and it is connected to a PC via RS-232 adapter cable, some fax software may not work properly because of autobauding. If this problem occurs, use infrared connection.

Nokia 9000i Carrying Case
Iconbild The convenient and stylish Nokia 9000i Carrying Case CBR-3 protects the Communicator wherever you are, and keeps the Communicator always at hand.

Complete Car Kit
Iconbild The Complete Car Kit CARK-60 offers a convenient handsfree option for operating the Communicator in a car. The Hands Free Microphone and external loudspeaker are always on when the Communicator is placed in its holder. The Mobile Holder connects the Communicator via a junction box to automatic charging facility and improved transmission capability. Battery charging times are the same as those for the charger ACH-4UC. The car kit installation should be made by qualified personnel.

IMPORTANT: The Communicator is never to be placed in the car kit holder with the cover open, because it could break loose in a sudden stop.

Placing the Communicator in the holder:

  • Close the cover of the Communicator, if it is open and turn the antenna in upright position.
  • Insert the Communicator in the Mobile Holder battery end first, as shown in the picture above.
  • Gently, in order not to damage the antenna or connectors, press the upper end of the Communicator in the holder.
  • When the Communicator is securely in place, press the catch on top of the holder, so that the locking mechanism engages.

When the Communicator is placed in the Mobile Holder in a vehicle, you may set the keypad tones (Menu 4 4), ringing volume (Menu 4 2) and the lights (Menu 4 1) of the Communicator to act differently from the settings selected for handportable use.
